When it comes to calibrating our current state as a species relative to our true potential, one thought experiment continues to dominate my thinking. Through this same mental exam, I have discovered my vision for humanity and it is light years beyond where we are now. If one should imagine a hypothetical alien observer, sent to monitor and report its findings of humanity back to its own advanced civilization, what would it say? Would it find our progress remarkable or would it be disgusted at our present condition?
For years, I relied on a similar thought experiment at work, and its ability to motivate my improvement was immense. Here, I would imagine my company, without warning, bringing in a consultant to analyze and audit my organizational and operational processes to determine if they were effective or otherwise made sense. In my mind, this person was scrutinizing my filing structure, form letters, sales procedures; every aspect of my job responsibilities. Even though it was a completely hypothetical examination, it kept me focused on improvement and self-accountability. Acting as though someone is watching (or will be) can be incredibly motivating.
Sometime later, after my awakening, I discovered that I could apply the same thought process on a collective scale to understand our functionality as a whole. This time, however, I found the revelation profoundly concerning. Everywhere I would consider our alien scout observing our status I would find myself confronted with harsh realities. To an ascended species many times older than our own (proven by its ability to cross the cosmos to reach us), we must appear as the degenerates of the universe. We are “that” dysfunctional family in the neighborhood that everyone avoids or, if unable to avert their eyes, witness with shock and horror as we slowly implode.
We are “that” dysfunctional family in the neighborhood that everyone avoids or, if unable to avert their eyes, witness with shock and horror as we slowly implode.
The source of our dysfunction is relatively straightforward. We are, after all, still of the old paradigm of consciousness, grounded in ego with its fundamental belief in separation. By this, we wage war, commit atrocities, oppress others, suffer in fear, and destroy our environment. Through our greed, shortsightedness, and insatiable need to consume we find ourselves completely unsustainable. By the collective influence of these negative qualities, our prognosis as a species is dire; certainly, we can never expect to survive long enough to rise to the level of our hypothetical observer.
And, yet, we can use the same thought experiment to reveal what it would take for us to do just that and find a favorable review of our common state. Right away it becomes obvious that ours must become a way of peace, harmony, holistic understanding, and sustainability. We would easily recognize that we must be set upon a common purpose and driven by the same vision—to ourselves rise above the dysfunction and become an ascended species. It is only by this level of functionality that our hypothetical observers might be impressed (and, by the way, I do not dismiss the possibility that we actually have been monitored throughout our human history).
We must be set upon a common purpose and driven by the same vision—to ourselves rise above the dysfunction and become an ascended species.
Of course, the million-dollar question is how do we get there? How can we possibly turn our collective dysfunction into function, chaos into order, disharmony into harmony? The truth is, it’s impossible—under the present paradigm. Consciousness itself must collectively shift out of the egoic state to the post-egoic. This represents a transcendence of ego which, in fact, is not impossible as many individuals, including myself, can attest to. The entire framework can—and must—change for such radical transformation to occur.
Continue to stay tuned for the large part of this publication will be about addressing this global awakening and how we can assist Humanity’s Shift. My belief is that by merely understanding the greater process at work we can become inspired and filled with hope in this time of unprecedented crisis. In a similar fashion, we can learn the ways in which we can commit to programs of conscious evolution and begin to intentionally contribute now to a more functional and harmonious future.
In the meantime, let’s live as though someone is watching . . . in all actuality, they may be. ;)
