Becoming An Ascended Species
Humanity's Rise Above All Present Limitation
It’s a concept that is near and dear to my heart: the idea of humanity becoming an ascended species. In fact, it’s no less than my vision for humanity (which cannot ever be said is not ambitious enough). But what exactly does it mean?
Defining Ascension
There are often opposing viewpoints on what ascension means. The spiritual community makes frequent use of this term, itself seemingly often confused about the definition. In their context, ascension often refers to a literal leveling up of our cellular structure to a higher energetic frequency due to any number of external influences, from cosmic transitions to changing magnetic fields within and around the Earth (there are many established thinkers who believe this is the actual “Shift” and have developed compelling arguments and evidence supporting it).
This molecular ascension may or may not occur and a lot is left to uncover regarding its possibility. But ascension is also seen by others to be a direct shift in consciousness through various means. Of this process, I much more emphatically agree although I simply refer to it as “awakening” in accordance with the terminology of many other spiritual teachers. That a global awakening or collective Shift in consciousness is occurring is one that I am already convinced of and this publication generally places that fundamental understanding as a primary thesis.
Ascension As A Species
But, again, my concern is not so much what may be the specific experience of some and instead place my focus on humanity as a whole. To me, our collective ascension as a species represents both a transition to true functionality (by way of a more expansive state of consciousness) as well as the focused application of our advancing technologies. Through this prescription, we not only survive our present free fall but rise in altitude above all our present limitations.
In my post, The Hypothetical Alien Observer, I suggested that by imagining that we are being observed by a highly advanced alien species, our present state becomes quite blatantly revealed in all its shortcomings. By viewing ourselves from that same perspective, we can more objectively see that through our dysfunction and all its various manifestations, we appear as anything but “ascended.”
But we can also use the same thought experiment to realize that such an advanced extraterrestrial or interdimensional race as our hypothetical alien observer would itself have to be ascended. It would have necessarily already crossed the same existential threshold we now face, in order to survive its own dysfunction or unsustainability. There would be no other way such a civilization could survive for the hundreds of thousands or millions of years necessary to develop cosmos-traversing technologies in order to reach us unless they reached their own harmonious and expanded state of consciousness.
There would then also be the matter of such technologies themselves. Our human evolution at this stage mostly consists of our technological development by which we extend our reach over the environment around us. Whereas organic evolution seeks to adapt to adverse influences as they arise, for the human, this adaptation has become intentional and preemptive. It is also occurring at an exponentially advancing rate as technology cycles back on itself and continually improves and advances.
When we generally think of evolution, however, it is typically represented by an adaptation in one particular manner to address a specific influence that affects survival. It overcomes a unique threat. But what I mean by ascension as a species is an overcoming of all previous limitations. In this, we are freed from our tethers altogether, able to eventually become that cosmos-crossing ascended species ourselves.
Our Present Limitations
What types of limitations might we overcome? By our changing state of consciousness, our Post-Egoic Society will see war, oppression, fear, unsustainability, and every other destructive tendency dissolve. Our new experience will be one of peace, harmony, growth, and vitality. We will begin to become sustainable and so not defeat our long-term survival before we ever have a chance to reach our potential.
Regarding the avenue of rapidly advancing technology, we shall by it rise above nearly every other form of limitation. Through the efforts of science including the possibilities afforded by transhumanism, we shall no less than overcome death itself.
The topics of longevity and immortality are already becoming seen as credible possibilities (and even certainties) as technologies continue to advance. And by our transformed consciousness, in the Post-Egoic Society, we shall see improved and far healthier environments as toxins are wisely removed from our places of habitation and from the foods we eat, promoting greater longevity and resistance to diseases on the front end.
We will not only no longer be a threat to each other we will also overcome any threat nature may bring against us including climate change or errant asteroids. In fact, beyond the technological singularity (see Ray Kurzweil for further understanding), via the immense processing power and intelligence of AI, we will most assuredly (even if it were to take a million years—which it won’t) be able to escape the confines of this universe altogether either by learning the means of traversing alternate universes or creating our own by the billions.
Is It Occurring? It Is and It Must
This is the trajectory that we are already on. I do not even believe my vision is that radical for it seems certain to me that this process was already instated long before I ever thought of it. By my own thumb on the pulse of things, consciousness does seem to be shifting (though this is out of the focus of mass media) and we are certainly being drawn to the singularity at an ever-increasing rate. My only contribution is to perhaps see that the two will be related in our common, future experience.
It is clear to me that this ascension above all other species and all environmental limitations not only can happen but that it will. But I can also say that it must. For as of now our current trajectory resembles an airplane plummeting from the sky with barely an audible “mayday” to be heard.
Just as Einstein so wisely understood, we cannot solve our problems at the same level of consciousness that created them. True transformations can never come from within the same framework. We must transcend our present paradigm if we are to even simply survive this free fall.
But as we do, and escape our terminal velocity and eventual destruction, we will also be surprised to see that in our new reality, we will not only level out but begin to gain altitude to new heights never before imagined. Humanity will find a new level of freedom. We will, in fact, be free of our former limitations forever. We shall be an ascended species.
